Minister of Youth and Children's Message

January 7, 2004

Dear Church Family,

Knock-knock. Who's there? Anew. Anew who? A New Year. Welcome and come on in Mr. New Year. I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Along with every new year come new resolutions. Two of the most common resolutions made every year are to lose weight and to exercise more. Unfortunately, the majority of all resolutions are not kept. So, how about you? What were your resolutions and how are you doing with them? However contrary to the above statistics, I would still like to suggest that we all make a resolution to lose weight and exercise more.

Having been around several heart patients and a heart doctor this past year, I have found that losing weight and exercising more are hightly recommended. While losing pounds and getting aerobic exercise is suggested by most all doctors, let me suggest that we all lose some of the weight of the world by exercising our privilege to pray. Moreover, walking is also highly recommended by doctors. Why not let our fingers do the walking through the Bible as we engage in in-depth Bible study (40 Days of Purpose begins February 11th). Oh, by the way, the doctor that I hung out with last year was the greatest physician and heart doctor of all -- Jesus Christ. He is the one that recommended we should lose weight, exercise, and walk in order to obtain a healthy heart.

Knock-knock. Who's there? When we come to our prayer time and knock at Jesus' door, when Jesus answers, does He know who we are? Are we a stranger, an unfamiliar guest, or are we a close, dear friend who visits frequently? Let's become best friends with God this year.

This year has already started off with a lot of excitement and we enter this new year expecting God to work in and through us in a grand and marvelous way. Praise be to God for all He is going to do through His children and friends at New Hope this year.

In His Grip,

Russ Bradley
